Northern Virginia 912 (a.k.a. NoVA 912) is a group of Americans that have come together because they are concerned about the direction of our country. Our formal mission statement is:
We seek to assert and defend our God-given rights of retaining a free society dedicated to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Through outreach, education, and peaceful, focused action, we further seek to restore the principles, values, and integrity originally protected by our Constitution, including free enterprise.
While many of our group members have been politically aware for a while, most of the membership became increasingly concerned during 2008 financial crisis that culminated in the TARP legislation in October 2008. By the March 2009, these concerns had grown even more pronounced and the group held its first meeting as a part of the broader 912 Project and Tea Party movements that swept the country at this time.
While the media attempts to paint us as the extreme right-wing, we believe any accurate investigation of our beliefs will quickly reveal that this is not a left-right issue, but an up-down issue. We are actually more moderate than either major political party. The real distinction with our group is that we believe in states' rights and individual liberty whereas both major political parties are constantly growing the size of government and nationalizing all power. One way to understand the distinction of this is to consider the square (or diamond) of political beliefs often used by Libertarian groups, such as the one produced by The World's Smallest Political Quiz.
While our group's beliefs have some similarities to those of the Libertarian Party, we do not endorse any party and I am sure many of our group members have political and strategic concerns about the Libertarian Party - just as with all of the other parties. In short, our group is about the goal of restoring liberty and the Constitutional framework. We are not a separate political party and we welcome members of all political parties.
